More than 100 years after completion of the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad line into Alamosa, the same standard gauge rails are still in use, carrying both freight and passengers over La Veta Pass on the San Luis & Rio Grande Railroad and the Rio Grande Scenic Railroad.
The Rio Grande Railroad also offers the one-of-a-kind Mountain Rails Live Concert series. Ride the train from Alamosa or La Veta to the Fir Concert site, a concert venue that is completely green, high in the Rocky Mountains. The Rio Grande Scenic Railroad has served the Southwest for over 130 years and now provides visitors to Southern Colorado with one of the most fun and exciting train rides in the U.S. In 2012, the RGSRR welcomes back the popular Mountain Rails Live summer concert series at the beautiful Fir Station stage. Located on the summit at Fir Station, the Rio Grande's outdoor concert site is run on
