Description: Your first night you'll stay in Durango, Colorado, where you'll stay at your choice of our lodging partners with something for everyone, from budget to deluxe.
The next morning you'll ride the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, which winds through the spectacular and breathtaking canyons in the remote wilderness of the two million acre San Juan National Forest. You will relive history with the sights and sounds of yesteryear on this 1882 adventure from Durango to Silverton, Colorado. The coal-fired, steam-operated locomotives are maintained in their original 1923-1925 vintage condition and, in Durango, take time to enjoy the Railroad Museum, located in the rail yard roundhouse featuring full-size locomotives, maps, photos, artwork, memorabilia, and authentic collectibles. While in Silverton, you can visit the Freight Yard Museum at the depot and learn about the history of the Rio Grande Railway as a freight line before heading downtown to enjoy lunch, and stroll this historic town's many quaint shops.
You will return to Durango early evening. You may find time to browse the downtown shops or have dinner in Durango then, take a scenic 1 1/2-hour drive to your choice of Cortez - Mesa Verde lodging options, your home for two nights while you explore the mysteries of Mesa Verde!

Your first day, you will make the most of your visit to Mesa Verde National Park with your choice of a Mesa Verde tours. The first option is a full-day all inclusive tour that includes transportation, lunch, tour and all park fees for a one-of-a-kind learning adventure. For the second tour option, you will drive yourself into the park to embark on a three-hour, fascinating guided bus tour (with options including a morning tour departing at 8:00AM or an afternoon tour departing at 1:00PM). Your professional park guides will bring the history to life while you explore the haunting cliff dwellings of the ancient Puebloan people.
