DNC - Michael Rendon Day in the Life

Michael Rendon

Michael Rendon - Democratic City CouncilmanRendon, 35, a Democrat and a native Coloradan, has lived in La Plata County for 15 years and currently serves as an engaged member of the Durango City Council. Rendon, who previously was the Director of the Fort Lewis College Environmental Center, loves the outdoor opportunities Durango provides and is moved by the rugged people (both past and present) of the Animas Valley.

Rendon currently sits on the Affordable Housing Board of Directors where he is trying to pass Durango's first Affordable Housing Policy. Rendon instigated the solar hot water system going on top of the Rec center this summer, and has been actively pushing for a "buy local" program for the city of Durango. Rendon plays violin with his Gypsy band, Carute Roma and often plays in local festivals and fundraisers.

Day 1: An avid international traveler, Rendon has literally been around the world, and still believes that nothing compares to the San Juan National Forest and he suggests that outdoor adventurers take in a couple of the magnificent hikes in our area. After a beautiful trip to Durango by flight or drive and once you have settled into one of our many comfortable lodging options, head into the Historic Downtown area, grab a cup of coffee or tea at one of our local coffee shops and then to Maria's Bookshop (between 9th and 10th on Main), one of the premier locally owned bookshops in the nation.
