1 Day San Miguel River Trip

Just 15 minutes from Telluride and 45 minutes from Ouray lies one of Colorado's least known and most spectacular river runs. Traveling down the San Miguel River you will be immersed in a world of forested red-rock walls, fast paced splashes and outdoor adventure. The San Miguel River leaves you with memories of smiling faces, incredible scenery and rolling rapids. Whether you choose a 1-day, 2-day or 3-day trip, you will be inspired by the narrow twisting waterway and towering red-rock walls of this Colorado jewel. This is the perfect trip for the family with adventurous kids over the age of 10 and at least 50 pounds, or the traveler in Telluride/Ouray area looking for a convenient adventure!

1 Day Upper Animas Raft Trip - Needleton

Discover one of the toughest commercially run trips in the U.S. at high water (early-mid June), the Upper Animas River. This spectacular and invigorating whitewater adventure has continuous class III wet and fun rapids with intermittent class IV big drop and class V violent rapids. Fourteen thousand-foot peaks rise from the banks of the river as the river drops at a rate of 85 feet per mile, creating continuous sections of whitewater that leave your arms shaking from nonstop paddling. Cascades and waterfalls pour into the river from the stunning Weminuche Wilderness. Unique to Mild to Wild on our one-day trips we run the Needleton section of river, which is generally a friendlier section of river than the section above Needleton. Must be 16 or over.

1 Day Upper Piedra River

Upper Box: Launch days are Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday

Paddling through 1000-foot deep canyons, alpine rain forests, heart pounding whitewater and then stopping at soothing hot springs, you'll experience a true Rocky Mountain jewel in the Piedra River. We run three trips on the Piedra River: the Upper Box (an intermediate adventure), the Lower Box (an advanced adventure) and the Two Day which runs the Upper Box on the first day and the Lower Box on the second day after a night of catered camping in a beautiful alpine wilderness.

9:00 a.m. Meet at the Piedra River store.

10:00 Arrive at put-in. Safety orientation & instruction, rig boats.

10:30 Warm up with continuous class II+ rapids.

11:00 Breathtaking wilderness.

11:30 Fun class II+ rapids.

12:00 p.m. Delicious lunch.

1:00 Board rafts for more class II+ action.

1:15 Enter second box canyon & the action begins!

1:20 "Lone Pine" rapid - class IV - run it!

1:45 "Lime Stone" rapid - class III to IV - shoot it!

2:30 Return to Piedra River store.

2 Day Piedra River

2 Day Departs Tuesday, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

Raft both the Upper and Lower boxes of the Piedra! The Piedra River starts as a small creek with many technical Class II splashes. As your journey continues, the river is joined by more tributaries, which adds significant water volume to the river. As a pool drop river, the Piedra contains fast paced fun, but is also marked by small pools of calmer water allowing you to take in the exquisite jagged rock walls, pristine alpine forest, and wildlife! Paddle through 1000 ft canyons, alpine rain forests, and heart pounding whitewater. Like the Upper Box of the Piedra River, the Lower Box is a pool drop river with short calm pools after the Class III wet and fun rapids, and Class IV and IV+ big drop rapids (or V violent rapid depending on the water level). Your heart will pump in the 15ft stair step drops (5 foot, followed by 4 foot, followed by a 6 foot drop). Then relax and soak in the riverside hot springs as you enjoy a deli style lunch. Combining both boxes cannot be matched in beauty, excitement and adventure!
