Looking for another great way to cool off and enjoy the beautiful mountains in the Durango area? Last weekend we gave relatives from the desert of Phoenix a great adventure in the cool San Juan Mountains. We started in Durango and took the fabulous Million Dollar Highway north to Silverton, an interesting old mining town. We then took part of the Alpine Loop that takes you over Engineer Mt Pass (at 12,700 feet you truly feel as though you are on top of the world!) and down into the tiny mountain town of Ouray. Along with the incrediable views, we enjoyed the beautiful wild flowers, wildlife and passing through the remains of many old mining sites. Don’t have your own 4X4 vehicle? – Not a problem! There are plenty of jeep tours to choice from in the area. Make your visit to our area even more memorable with a stay at the lovely historic General Palmer Hotel in Durango – one of my favorite places to stay in town. Also enjoy a night in Silverton at another great historic hotel, the Grand Imperial. When you’re ready for an adventure please call one of our knowledgeable agents at Gateway Reservations and we’ll be happy to help!
