Today we’re enjoying our first snowfall of the season in downtown Durango, CO!  The flakes are huge!  But there’s still time to enjoy the Fall colors before you begin planning your winter ski vacation.  The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad train will run through October 26th, at which time it will close for 3 weeks to prepare for the opening of the Winter Cascade Canyon Train on November 27th.  The Fall colors are at their peak right now, so it’s definitely not too late to ride the train to Silverton and soak up those breathtaking views.  Bring your camera!

As the holidays approach, start thinking about taking your  kids or grand kids on this trip of a lifetime:  the magical journey to the North Pole on the Polar Express Train (November 23-January 4)!  Our entire family looks forward to this train ride every year, and will talk about it for years to come.  Where else can you ride a real train to the North Pole , in your pajamas, to meet Santa and his elves?  The Polar Express is a ‘must do,’ for kids and parents of all ages.  You just have to believe!

When you start planning your winter ski trip, remember to make time for some other fun things to do while you’re here!  One of my favorites is snowmobiling.  I felt just like a teenager again!  What an absolute blast, cruising through the fresh powder while my daughter held on for dear life,  squealing with laughter!  I will always remember this adventure with my family.

And nothing beats a sleigh ride through the forest, driven by real cowboys, and pulled by big beautiful horses decked out in their finest sleigh bells!   It was actually snowing during our ride, making it even more enchanting.   I highly recommend taking a sleigh ride with your loved ones.  You’ll never forget it!

The perfect ending to your perfect vacation:  apres ski soaking at Trimble Hot Springs.   It feels pretty amazing, not to mention incredibly relaxing, to be soaking under the stars, in 105 degree water, while the snowing is gently falling all around you.  Can you feel it?

I feel so lucky to be living and working in such an incredible area of this country.  We would love to help you plan your next ski vacation to Durango!  Give us a call and we’ll take care of everything for you.  We love having company over.
