Bring your family to Durango for a Thanksgiving that will leave you profoundly grateful for the love of family, and for the beauty of the San Juan mountains, the ancient culture of Mesa Verde, and that nostalgic and welcoming allure of the Old West.
Here’s a unique and memorable way to spend your Turkey-day Getaway:
Arrive Wednesday:
One of the many wonderful things about Durango is that you don’t have to break the bank to get here; Durango is an incredible “drive-in” destination. From these nearby hubs, we’re just a quick and lovely jaunt away:
Phoenix 8 hrs.
Albuquerque 3.5 hrs.
Grand Junction 3.25 hours
Santa Fe, NM 4 hours
Amarillo, TX 7.5 hrs.
Pssst: you can always check road conditions at COtrip.org
Thursday:
You’re here, now relax! Take a leisurely hike near town or a walk on the Animas River Trail, wander historic downtown Durango, and enjoy a Thanksgiving feast at one of Durango’s many restaurants offering buffets and special menus. Want to eat where you sleep? Consider The Strater Hotel’s Mahogany Grille, which offers traditional turkey and “a whole lot of other wonderful things”; the Double Tree Hotel, Durango’s only riverside hotel, which offers a full, fun and traditional Thanksgiving buffet; or settle in at the Sky Ute Casino Resort, offering a Thanksgiving buffet served in the Willows Café Bistro. Oh! And at the Sky Ute Casino, the bowling alley and arcade will be open on Thanksgiving Day so you can bowl those calories away.
Friday:
Head up to Purgatory Resort for some early-season skiing and to work off some of that turkey feast.
Saturday:
Enjoy a day trip to Mesa Verde with an expert guide.
In the evening, melt away during a festive and cozy POLAR EXPRESS™ ride on the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad.
