    Durango, Colorado is proud to host the 35th annual Ride the Rockies cyclist event from June 14th - 19th, 2020. Riders come from all 50 states and 18 foreign countries to ride in this non-competitive event, which is open to cyclists of all ages. Back in 1979, the people here in Durango were covered in winter’s darkness, so we longed to do something to keep our spirits up during the colder, winter months. So we created a week-long festival, and we named it Snowdown! This year, Durango’s annual Snowdown Festival marks its 42nd straight year! Silverton is a mountain town in the southwest corner of Colorado (current population: 700). Settled in a caldera at 9,300 feet, the tiny mining town was originally home to Ute Indians who spent summers hunting the highlands. In 1873 the Brunot Agreement opened the San Juan Mountains to settlement and by 1960 the first white men, miners, flocked to Silverton in search of silver and gold.
